Former Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensa-Bonsu, has cast doubt on the ability of Black Stars coach, Otto Addo, to qualify Ghana for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking in an interview on Movement TV, the veteran lawmaker argued that Otto Addo lacks the tactical depth and leadership qualities needed to steer the national team through the qualifiers and onto the world stage.

“I see Mali as the strongest opponent in our group; unfortunately, they did not start the qualification series well. It is too late for them to secure a qualification. For Madagascar, who are trailing us with 16 points, they can’t win the two remaining games,” Kyei-Mensa-Bonsu said.

He further noted that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) should critically assess the technical direction of the team if the country hopes to avoid another disappointing campaign.

His comments come at a time when the Black Stars’ recent performances have sparked widespread debate among fans and analysts.

Meanwhile, Minister of Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, has expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of Otto Addo, stressing that the national team has failed to show convincing progress under his leadership ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Citi FM noted that despite the high expectations following Otto Addo’s reappointment, the team has not delivered the level of performance Ghanaians expect on the international stage.

While some supporters have backed Otto Addo to build a youthful team for the future, others insist that Ghana needs a more seasoned coach to navigate the competitive qualifiers ahead.

Ghana will resume its 2026 World Cup qualifiers in October when the Black Stars will play against Central African Republic and Comoros, facing tough opposition from African rivals.

Ghana beat Mali 1-0 in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium with Alexander Djiku’s improvised finish in the 49th minute serving as the winner.

Ghana stay on top of Group I with 19 points from eight games with Madagascar in second place with 16 points.
