The unexpected appearance of Afenyo-Markin and his team sparked heated confrontations between NDC executives and supporters.

Azorka, known for his fiery leadership, described the visit as “highly disrespectful” and “provocative,” accusing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of attempting to intimidate NDC supporters in the area.

Some NDC members further alleged that Afenyo-Markin’s entourage entered the office to remove posters of their candidate.

Azorka accused the NPP of using the by-election as a testing ground for “undemocratic strategies,” warning that the NDC would resist any such attempts. “A by-election will be held in his [Afenyo-Markin] constituency if he tries anything,” he fumed.

Visibly angered, he added that “What does he want here? Is he NDC secretary? You people should talk to them.”

He said “I am informed that the NDC Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka, said he wanted to ‘kill’ me. This is not the first time we have heard such threats. But I am not a coward.”

He also urged his supporters to remain steadfast. He said “There are foot soldiers on the ground. Nobody should allow Azorka’s words to create fear. Politics is about courage, not intimidation. Our forebearers even endured jail for the cause, so no one should give in to fear.”

At the end of collation, the NDC’s candidate, lawyer Bernard Bediako Baidoo emerged victorious. He polled 18, 199 representing 54.30%, Kwame Asumadu of the NPP garned 15,235 representing 45.46%, whiles Patrick Owusu of the LGP polled 82 of the total votes cast.
