In a video, trending on X, the suspect was publicly shamed and assaulted by a crowd. The residents restrained him and transported him to the nearest police station for further investigation.

Residents reportedly caught the man taking the Waakye, stew and shito, which included a bowl of the popular rice and beans dish, a container of shito pepper sauce, and stew.

The aggrieved residents then marched the suspect through the streets, subjecting him to slaps and beatings while onlookers filmed the spectacle. Those involved could be heard speaking Twi and mocking him for the theft.

The suspect was eventually escorted to the police station by the crowd, accompanied by the waakye vendor. The seller has since lodged a formal complaint, prompting authorities to investigate both the alleged theft and the actions of the mob.

Authorities are expected to take statements from both the complainants and witnesses before deciding on the next line of action.

The incident has sparked mixed reactions among residents, with some emphasising the importance of community vigilance, while others raised concerns about the circumstances that may have led to the alleged theft.
