The Ministry of Defence has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, who died in a helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

Dr. Boamah was among eight people who perished when the aircraft went down in the Adansi area.

The accident also claimed the lives of the Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; the NDC Vice Chairman, Dr. Samuel Sarpong; and five others.

Delivering reflections on behalf of the defence ministry’s management team at the Evening of Reflection and Memorial for the eight victims of the military helicopter crash, Colonel Ernestina Assan, described Dr. Omane Boamah as a committed public servant and a dedicated patriot who worked tirelessly to strengthen Ghana’s security and defence systems.

Colonel Ernestina Assan said “Through his transformative leadership and unwavering dedication, he left an indelible mark.

“His diplomatic and inclusive approach fostered collaboration, while his vision for modernising the Ghana Armed Forces ensured readiness for contemporary challenges.”

“His passion for agriculture and digitalisation brought innovation to the Ministry, and his strategic communication skills elevated its public engagement,” she added.

The Ministry extended its condolences to the bereaved family, assuring them of full support during this difficult time.

Dr. Boamah, a respected politician and physician, served in several ministerial roles before he was appointed Defence Minister.

Colleagues said he approached his work with a blend of strategic insight and compassion, making him a trusted figure within the security establishment
