Dr. Daniel McKorley, Founder and Executive Chairman of the McDan Group of Companies, was crowned “Most Influential Entrepreneur of All Time” at the 15th Anniversary and Awards Ceremony of the Entrepreneurs Foundation of Ghana (EFG).

The prestigious honour, conferred on the accomplished businessman and philanthropist, marks a new pinnacle in a career defined by audacious vision, relentless drive, and transformative achievements.

From humble beginnings to building a multi-sector conglomerate with a global footprint, Dr. McKorley’s rise has come to symbolise what is possible through grit, innovation, and faith in the Ghanaian dream.

The EFG Awards, known for spotlighting business excellence and visionary leadership, gathered some of Ghana’s most accomplished entrepreneurs and corporate trailblazers.

The evening also saw accolades presented to other distinguished personalities, including Naa Prof. Edmund Nminyem Delle of Rabito Clinic, Dr. Paul Kofi Fynn of Wisconsin International University College, Dr. Mrs. Kate Quartey-Papafio of Reroy Group, Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong of Special Group of Companies, Ms. Esther Cobbah of Stratcomm Africa, and Mr. David Osei-Amankwah of David Walter Ghana Ltd.

But it was Dr. McKorley who commanded the spotlight, hailed by the Foundation for his role in job creation, sector transformation, and economic development over the past two decades.

Through the McDan Group, he has redefined private sector leadership in logistics, aviation, shipping, mining, salt, agribusiness, and real estate—establishing a Ghanaian brand with operations in over 2,400 ports across the world.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. McKorley expressed deep appreciation to Mr. Sam Ato Gaisie, founder of the Entrepreneurs Foundation of Ghana, for his tireless efforts in promoting entrepreneurship and nurturing a generation of visionary Ghanaian business leaders.

“I came from very little—but what I had was a dream and a deep belief that Ghana is a land of opportunity,” Dr. McKorley said, reflecting on his early struggles. “Yes, it’s tough. But I’m happy to be in Ghana, to work here, and to believe that the future I hold for this country will surely be fulfilled.”

The business mogul’s remarks drew enthusiastic applause as he urged young Ghanaians and fellow entrepreneurs not to surrender to discouragement. “If you want it, fight for it,” he declared. “Ghana is waiting for you to rise.”

There was also a lighter moment when he was asked why he stepped to the edge of the stage to assist his female staff members in joining him during the award presentation.

His answer—“I’m a romantic man—and my disposition has always been to serve”—elicited laughter and admiration from the audience, showcasing the charisma and humility that have endeared him to many.

Dr. McKorley’s accolades are not confined to business success.

He is widely respected for his philanthropy and social impact work through the McDan Foundation, which supports education, sports, and youth empowerment.

Recent initiatives such as the McDan Youth Connect and the McDan Entrepreneurship Challenge continue to empower the next generation of African entrepreneurs with funding, mentorship, and access to networks.

His academic and leadership credentials are equally remarkable. He holds a Diploma in Leadership from Lehigh University, a Bachelor of Science degree, and an Executive MBA from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration.

He also holds an honorary Doctorate from the London Business School.

Among his many pioneering feats, Dr. McKorley is the first Ghanaian to own and operate a private jet terminal and is the current operator of Africa’s largest salt mine—a testament to his appetite for big ideas and his commitment to Ghana’s industrial advancement.
