The Upper East Regional Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has sanctioned 16 party executives and members from the Pusiga and Tempane constituencies for various acts of misconduct during the 2024 general elections.

In an official statement dated August 1, 2025, and signed by Regional Chairman Anthony Namoo, the NPP explained that the disciplinary action follows a detailed investigation led by the Regional Disciplinary Committee, which commenced on January 25, 2025.

The party revealed that disciplinary hearings were conducted in March, and the final report was submitted in June, resulting in the decisions made public in August.

Key sanctions imposed

  • Sawuda Bilgumsey, the 2nd Vice Chairman, has been removed from office and banned indefinitely from holding any party position until he refunds misappropriated funds.

  • Six party officials, including 1st Vice Chairman Musah Awudu and Treasurer Jacob Akazusah, have received a five-year ban from party office.

  • One coordinator has been dismissed and barred for four years.

  • Eight members, including polling station executives and grassroots members, have been suspended from holding party roles for three years.

Some members cleared

Five individuals, including Salifu Ibn Adams, the Constituency Research and Elections Officer, were cleared of all charges and found not guilty of the alleged misconduct.

Upholding party discipline

The NPP emphasised that the disciplinary measures are in line with the party’s constitution and are aimed at upholding internal discipline, ensuring accountability, and maintaining integrity within its ranks.

All vacant positions resulting from the sanctions will be filled following the party’s internal procedures and constitutional guidelines.
