In a significant gesture of bilateral cooperation and support, the Government of Ghana has received a consignment of 2,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser from the Kingdom of Morocco.
The donation, aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity, comes at a crucial time as Ghana intensifies efforts to strengthen its food security and support smallholder farmers across the country.
The fertiliser consignment, delivered through the Moroccan state-owned company OCP Group, was officially handed over at a brief ceremony attended by government officials, representatives of the Moroccan Embassy, and key stakeholders in the agriculture sector.
Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, expressed gratitude on behalf of the government and people of Ghana, describing the gesture as timely and impactful.
He said “This donation is not just a consignment of fertiliser; it is a profound symbol of the strong and enduring relationship between our two nations.”
He noted that the support from Morocco reaffirms its steadfast commitment to Ghana’s agricultural transformation and its broader development agenda.
The Deputy Minister highlighted the importance of fertiliser in achieving the goals of the Feed Ghana Programme, a flagship initiative under the Government’s Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA).
The Programme aims to boost productivity, improve food and nutrition security, create decent employment, and stimulate agro-industrial linkages.
“Access to quality fertiliser is critical to the success of this effort. This donation will go a long way in addressing the input needs of smallholder farmers, particularly at a time when the government is scaling up distribution to priority production zones,” he stated.
The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Ghana, officials from both countries, representatives of farmer-based organisations, development partners, and members of the media.
The Deputy Minister also underscored the growing cooperation between Ghana and Morocco in areas such as fertiliser development, seed commercialisation, irrigation, and knowledge transfer.
He gave firm assurance that the donated fertiliser would be distributed transparently and efficiently to its intended beneficiary farmers operating in high-impact food production zones.
The donation is seen as a further step in deepening bilateral cooperation between Ghana and Morocco, particularly in agricultural development. It is also expected to contribute meaningfully to the Government’s efforts to ensure sustainable food systems and rural prosperity.

As the ceremony concluded, the Deputy Minister reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with the Kingdom of Morocco, expressing hope for continued collaboration that yields mutual benefits.
“Together, we are sowing the seeds of transformation, and together, we will reap the fruits of food security, economic growth, and rural prosperity,” he declared.
