Over 40 major roads nationwide will undergo rehabilitation as the Government allocates GH¢13.8 billion to kickstart its “Big Push” infrastructure initiative.

Presenting the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament on Thursday, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Minister of Finance, said the entire allocation under the programme over the next two years would be dedicated to enhancing road infrastructure.

“The Ministry of Roads and Highways has undertaken studies and prepared comprehensive engineering interventions and cost estimates for road projects under the Big Push Programme,” he stated, noting that commitment authorisations had already been issued for the selected projects.

He said nearly 50 roads and bridges would benefit from the initiative, including the new bridge over the Oti River at Dambai; Wa–Han Road; Tumu–Hamile and Tumu–Han–Lawra Roads; Navrongo–Tumu Road; Techiman–Nkonsia–Wenchi Road; Wenchi–Sawla Road; Sunyani Outer Ring Road; and Kumasi Outer Ring Road (Eastern Quadrant).

Additional works include Gbintri–Nakpanduri Road; Dodo Pepesu–Nkwanta Road; Atimpoku–Asikuma Junction Road; Asikuma Junction–Anyirawasi Road; Anyirawasi–Ho Tritrinu Road; Akosombo–Gyakiti–Kudikope Road; Asikuma–Anum Boso–Kpalime Road; Adomi Bridge–Akwamufie Road; Ho–Kpetoe Road; Kpetoe–Afiadenyigba Road; Afiadenyigba–Penyi Road; Penyi–Aflao Road; and dualisation of Winneba–Mankessim Road.

Others are Cape Coast–Takoradi dual carriageway; Mankessim–Ajumako–Breman Asikuma–Agona Swedru Road; Tema–Aflao Road (Section 1); Dodowa–Afienya–Dawhenya Road; Oyibi–Appolonia–Afienya Road; Enchi–Elubo Road; Dadieso–Akontombra Road; Adwofua–Oseikojokrom Road; Enchi–Kudjouru–Pekyi Road; and Bediako Junction–Camp 15–Sefwi Adabokrom Road.

Dr Forson announced that several previously abandoned road projects lacking dedicated funding would be revived.

These include Kasoa–Winneba Road; Ofankor–Nsawam dual carriageway; Takoradi–Agona Junction Road; Suame Interchange and local roads; Wa–Han Road (National Route N18); Tumu–Chuchuliga–Navrongo Road including two new reinforced concrete bridges over the Kanyibie and Bechelihu rivers.

Further upgrades will be made to Navrongo–Chuchuliga–Sandema Road; Tepa (Mabang)–Goaso Road; Hohoe–Jasikan Road; Nkwanta–Oti Damanko Road; Have–Hohoe Road; Adenta–Dodowa dual carriageway; and Jinijini–Sampa Road.

He said that feasibility studies were underway for four major initiatives: Accra–Kumasi Expressway, Accra Outer Ring Road, Kumasi Outer Ring Road, and the Adawso–Ekye Amanfrom Bridge to connect the Afram Plains.

“Mr. Speaker, this translates to about 5,000km of roads to be reconstructed in these 166 constituencies in dire need of road infrastructure over the next three years,” Dr Forson said.
