Consolidated Bank Ghana Ltd. (CBG) has officially announced the appointment of Ernest Mawuli Agbesi as the new Chairman of its Board of Directors.
With over four decades of extensive experience in the banking and financial services sector, Agbesi is widely recognised as a seasoned banker, corporate strategist, and institutional leader whose wealth of expertise will guide CBG into its next phase of growth and transformation.
Agbesi’s career began with the Ghana Audit Service, from where he transitioned into the banking industry, taking on progressive leadership roles across some of Ghana’s leading financial institutions.
He has previously served as Managing Director/CEO of GCB Bank Plc and the National Investment Bank, as well as holding senior positions at uniBank Ghana and the International Commercial Bank.
Throughout his career, he has been credited with leading strategic institutional reforms, driving operational enhancements, and fostering sustainable growth.
Academically, Agbesi holds an MBA in Strategic/Consultancy Management from the Paris Graduate School of Management and a Diploma in Accounting from the University of Ghana. His professional expertise spans operations, business development, credit management, risk assessment, and corporate governance.
Beyond his executive roles, Agbesi has held notable board positions in prestigious organisations such as Ghana International Bank (London), Nestlé Ghana Ltd, and GCNet.
His reputation for integrity, sound governance practices, and effective strategy execution has earned him respect both within the financial industry and in broader corporate circles.
He is also actively engaged in national development initiatives through his service on academic councils and various financial boards.
