President John Dramani Mahama has nominated four deputy ministers to assist their respective ministers in helping the government achieve its vision and objectives and fulfil its promises to the people of Ghana.
The appointments come as part of his broader commitment to building a competent, inclusive, and forward-looking team governing the country.
The list includes Dorcas Toffey MP, Deputy Minister for Transport, James Gyakye Quayson MP, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs.
The rest are Mohammed A. Sukparu MP, Deputy Communications Minister designate, and Prof. Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah MP, Deputy Minister for Health designate.
This means that the President has delivered on his promise to work with only 60 ministers and deputies.
Prior to the 2024 elections, Mahama reiterated his commitment to drastically reduce the size of government.
He said that was because the Akufo-Addo government had sufficiently proven to Ghanaians that with over 120 ministers and deputy ministers, all they could offer was to ruin the economy.
“I will run a lean, highly effective, and efficient government of no more than 60 (sixty) ministers and deputy ministers,” Mahama said.
He said his promise to run a lean government was proof of his genuine commitment to curbing government expenditure.
“My leaner government will be the cleanest government Ghana has ever experienced. It will serve Ghanaians far better and set higher standards for future governments. What we have now can never be and should never be a yardstick,” he stated.
He said his goal was to launch a renewed fight against corruption.
