A young man posing as a fake medical doctor has been arrested in Kasoa, Central Region, by the Ghana Police for allegedly defrauding victims with fake international travel offers.

According to a police statement, the suspect, identified as Fredrick Papa Kow-Assifuah, was apprehended on June 6, 2025, in an intelligence-led operation at Kasoa Crispo City.

The fake doctor was caught wearing a white lab coat and stethoscope, preparing to meet another unsuspecting victim.

Police recovered multiple medical supplies, including two stethoscopes, three IV drips, five syringes, six vaccine bottles, two sample bottles, one roll of medical plaster, and cash totalling GH¢8,500 from the scene.

During interrogation, Kow-Assifuah admitted to impersonating a doctor at the so-called United Brain Hospital. He also confessed to operating an online romance scam, targeting women with fake love and international travel promises to extort money.

The fake doctor arrested in Kasoa is currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations, and will soon be arraigned in court.

This case highlights a growing concern over online scams, romance fraud, and fake travel agents in Ghana, especially in areas like Kasoa.

Kasoa has gained notoriety for its high rate of criminal activity, unmatched in the region. Initially populated by refugees from war-torn Liberia who sought refuge in nearby Budumburam, the community now sees many of them returning to their homeland.

Kasoa has also become a haven for escaped Nigerian prisoners seeking refuge, joining a community that already harbours various foreign criminals.

Some residents of Kasoa said they are tired of their community being associated with all manner of ills, even when the incidents have occurred in adjoining or distant communities.
