A 29-year-old man, reportedly named Samuel Anim Twumasi, narrowly escaped a lynching attempt by a group of youth in the community at Akim Nkronso in the Eastern Region on May 12, 2025

The incident was sparked by rumours circulating about Twumasi’s alleged homosexual relationship with Rubin Osei, a fellow community member.

Eyewitnesses reported that Twumasi was confronted by a group of young men who had gathered after the rumours spread.

The situation escalated quickly, with the youth attempting to take matters into their own hands, seeking to punish Twumasi for the alleged relationship.

However, with the help of a few good Samaritans, Twumasi managed to escape the clutches of the mob before any physical harm could be done.

While no official statement has been made regarding the nature of the alleged gay relationship between Twumasi and Osei, the community has been divided by the incident.

Many community members have expressed concern over the violence, condemning the attempt on Twumasi’s life. Others have voiced disappointment over the continued stigma surrounding LGBTQ+ individuals in the region.

As of now, Twumasi and Osei have not been seen in the area since the incident, and it remains unclear where he is currently residing.

The situation has sparked wider conversations on the growing issues surrounding LGBTQ+ rights and the need for greater acceptance and understanding in local communities.

This incident marks another chapter in the ongoing struggle for LGBTQ+ rights in Ghana, where homosexuality remains illegal and carries significant social stigma.

The case will likely continue to draw attention as it unfolds, especially given the violent nature of the lynching attempt and the rising calls for change in the country’s approach to LGBTQ+ issues.
