The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has apprehended four suspects at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in connection with a cannabis trafficking operation aimed at smuggling narcotics out of Ghana.

The drug bust occurred on Sunday, May 18, 2025, during NACOC’s routine profiling and surveillance exercises, which were activated based on credible intelligence reports on drug smuggling activities.

According to a press release by Francis Opoku Amoah, Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations, one of the individuals arrested was Jada Chyna Brown-Frater, a 23-year-old British national.

She was intercepted during passenger screening prior to boarding British Airways Flight BA 2066 to Gatwick, UK. Upon inspection of her luggage, NACOC agents discovered 32 slabs of cannabis, weighing 17.72 kilograms.

She was immediately arrested for drug possession and trafficking and is expected to face prosecution.

On the same day, NACOC officers arrested Christian Williams Owusu, a 19-year-old British citizen, who had just arrived from Dubai on Emirates Flight EK 787. He was found carrying two suitcases containing 92 slabs of cannabis, totalling 53.60 kilograms.

Subsequent investigations led to the detention of two additional suspects believed to be accomplices in the narcotic smuggling attempt.

NACOC has confirmed that investigations into the cannabis smuggling ring are currently ongoing.

Amoah emphasised NACOC’s unwavering commitment to fighting illegal drug trafficking in Ghana, stating that the agency will continue to enhance airport drug enforcement through intelligence-led operations and surveillance.
