In 2025, the Ghana Education Service (GES) stepped in several times to interdict or remove educators — both teachers and headmasters — accused of misconduct.

These cases underscore that even in senior‑cycle institutions, no one is above accountability.

Why these interdictions matter

  • Upholding professional standards: These interventions demonstrate that misconduct — be it financial, administrative, or sexual — will not be tolerated regardless of a person’s rank.

  • Protecting students: When allegations involve exploitation or wrongdoing toward students, swift action sends a message that their safety and dignity matter foremost.

  • Transparency and accountability: Through interim interdiction (as per the rules of the GES Code of Conduct), investigations can proceed without interference.

  • Institutional integrity: By acting publicly and decisively, GES aims to restore trust in the management of second‑cycle schools and dissuade others from abusing authority.

In 2025, GES carried out multiple disciplinary actions, addressing issues from alleged sexual misconduct to the misappropriation of food items intended for students.

Newscenta looks at 6 times GES interdicted teachers and headmasters in 2025.

1. Piina Senior High School — Headmaster interdicted over alleged food smuggling

In February 2025, GES interdicted Adams Mahama Issahaku, headmaster of Piina SHS in the Upper West Region, after school food items were reportedly found in his official pick‑up vehicle. The interdiction was effective from 7 February 2025.

Regional education authorities directed him to hand over school administration and property, emphasising that the interdiction is a procedural step and does not imply guilt.

2. Akumfi Ameyaw Senior High Technical School — The Headmaster was interdicted over unauthorised fees and financial misconduct

On 22 May 2025, GES interdicted Solomon Douglas Nyaman, headmaster of Akumfi Ameyaw SHS, following serious allegations, including unauthorised fee collection, misuse of internally generated funds (IGF), and coercing students into purchasing items such as liquid soap produced by his spouse.

Specific charges included extra class fees, unapproved SRC dues, forced purchases from external vendors, and financial irregularities tied to admission and extra‑curricular activities.

3. Nkwanta Senior High School — Headmaster suspended for unauthorised public appeal during WASSCE

In August 2025, GES suspended Solomon Sarpong Bagmae, headmaster of Nkwanta SHS in the Oti Region, after he reportedly gave a media interview calling for public support to feed students writing the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The appeal was made without prior approval from GES.

A directive signed by the Regional Director of Education ordered him to step aside immediately, hand over school property and duties, and refrain from further public comments pending investigation.

4. Okadjakrom Senior High Technical School (Oti Region)

On 2 October 2025, a teacher, Mfo Richard Tibetor, was interdicted after a video surfaced allegedly showing him in a sexual act with a female student.

GES described the conduct as “unacceptable, unethical, and a clear violation” of the professional code for teachers, and barred him from entering the school pending a full investigation.

5. GES sacks KNUST SHS Assistant Headmaster for fondling breast

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has removed from office Charles Akwasi Aidoo, Assistant Headmaster (Academic) of KNUST Senior High School (SHS).

Aidoo was removed from office because he was found “in a compromising position with a female student.”

A statement issued and signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations, GES, said, “We strongly condemn any acts that compromise the safety, dignity and well-being of students.”

The statement said the attention of the Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) had been drawn to a viral video circulating on social media, allegedly involving Charles Akwasi Aidoo, the Assistant Headmaster (Academic) of KNUST SHS, in a compromised position with a female student.

6. Dzodze-Penyi Senior High School — Headmaster interdicted amid sexual misconduct allegations

On 6 December 2025, GES interdicted Joshua Vidzro, headmaster of Dzodze‑Penyi SHS, following allegations of sexual misconduct involving female students. The interdiction came immediately to safeguard the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

He was ordered to vacate the school premises by 8 December 2025 after handing over the school administration and records to the relevant municipal education directorate.
