Two young men have been arrested in connection with the robbery and killing of a 28-year-old woman at Asokore Mampong, near Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region.
The deceased, identified as Silver Ngozi, was allegedly attacked during a robbery and fatally stabbed with a knife.
The suspects, Farouk Iddris, 20, a motorbike mechanic and rider, and Salim Mohammed, 19, a motorbike mechanic and rickshaw rider, were arrested following intelligence-led police operations.
Addressing the media, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Arthur Osei Akoto, said preliminary investigations indicate that the two suspects robbed the victim, during which one of them allegedly stabbed her, leading to her death.
He explained that on December 12, 2025, at about 9:00 pm, a joint team from the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters and the Anti-Robbery Unit arrested the suspects at their hideout at Aboabo in Kumasi.
A search conducted in the room of Farouk Iddris, according to the police, led to the recovery of a machete, knives, and other offensive weapons. During interrogation, the suspects reportedly admitted to committing the robbery. Salim Mohammed, who was the pillion rider on the day of the incident, identified a zigzag-edged knife as the weapon used in the attack.
DCOP Akoto said the suspects remain in police custody, assisting with investigations and will be arraigned before court. He also disclosed that an iPhone 11 Pro, stolen from the deceased during the robbery, has been retrieved and is being kept as evidence.
In a separate but related operation, the police also arrested three additional suspects linked to a series of street robberies across Asokore Mampong, KNUST, Kenyasi, Bosore, Duase, Antoa, Mayanka, Ayeduase, and nearby communities.
The suspects were identified as Abdul Fatawu, alias “UN”, aged 22; Philip Nyarko, alias “Kawawa”, aged 24; and Samak Hadi, alias “Toronto”, aged 21.
Items retrieved from their hideouts at Aboabo included 59 iPhones, six Android phones, four tablets, and five laptops. Police say all three suspects confessed to the offences in their caution statements and are currently assisting with investigations.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has appealed to members of the public who may have fallen victim to these robberies to report to the command to help with ongoing investigations.
DCOP Akoto reaffirmed the police service’s commitment to maintaining peace, law, and order in the region and urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support the fight against crime.
