A 44-year-old man has died after falling from a storey building at the community centre in Abuesi, within the Shama District in the Western Region.
According to the Assembly Member for the area, Enock Arthur, he received a distressing call early in the morning on January 8, 2026, alerting him to an incident at the facility. When he arrived, he found the man unresponsive.
Further checks identified the deceased as Frank Essilfie Ebea, a local taxi driver known for his routine morning exercises on the staircase of the community centre before starting work.
The staircase—part of the yet-to-be-completed community centre—has tyres installed along the sides as a temporary safety feature.
However, the Assembly Member believes the surface of the tyres may have become slippery, contributing to the fall.
Frank, a resident of the community, is survived by one child.
Police have begun investigations, and the body has been taken to St. Edward’s Mortuary.
In the meantime, Assembly Member Arthur has introduced immediate safety measures around the construction site to prevent similar incidents as work continues.
