Brigadier General Evelyn Vivian Abraham-Kwabiah, a physician specialist with the Ghana Armed Forces Medical Service (GAFMS), has been appointed commander of the 37 Military Hospital.
She becomes the first female officer to assume command of the United Nations Level IV hospital and takes on the role of Acting Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS), Medical, at the General Headquarters.
Her appointment was formalised through a transfer of authority ceremony held at the 37 Military Hospital and the GAFMS Directorate at Burma Camp.
Brig Gen Abraham-Kwabiah is a trailblazer, holding several historic firsts in the Ghana Armed Forces.
She is the first female officer to serve as DCOS, Medical, and the first female medical officer to attain the rank of Brigadier General.
Brig Gen Abraham-Kwabiah is also the first female medical officer to be appointed a commander in the Ghana Armed Forces and the first to lead the Ghana Armed Forces Critical Care and Emergency Hospital (GAFCCEH).
Before her current appointment, she served as the Officer-in-Charge of the Medical Division at the 37 Military Hospital, bringing extensive experience in clinical practice and leadership.
During her tenure at the GAFCCEH, Brig Gen Abraham-Kwabiah led initiatives including free kidney screenings and medical checkups.
She also oversaw a partnership with the Ghana National Gas Company Limited to raise awareness on kidney health.
As Commander and Acting DCOS, Medical, Brig Gen Abraham-Kwabiah will provide strategic direction for the GAFMS and oversee its operations.
She has pledged to uphold professionalism within the medical service and the Ghana Armed Forces, and to work closely with relevant authorities to safeguard the integrity of the GAFMS.
