Three people — an adult man and two children — have been killed in a shooting incident at Sakpari, a community in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region, in a gun attack.

The attack, which occurred around 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2025, also left the Manager of Binduri-based Maxx Empire FM, George Bukari, with an injury to his hand.

Gunmen target family residence

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the unidentified gunmen stormed the home of Bukari and opened fire on the occupants.

“The assailants were reportedly hiding in a burnt house near the victims’ residence. George Bukari had taken the two children to the bathhouse but returned to the backyard to retrieve his sandals, leaving the children and his uncle in the compound.

“It was while he was returning that the attackers opened fire, killing the two children and his uncle. Luckily, a bullet aimed at him was blocked by a cow, which died instantly but caused injury to his hand,” an opinion leader, Atiga Salam, told Graphic Online.

According to residents, the victims include an adult male and two children — one aged about 14 and the other around five years old, who was the son of the radio station manager.

Salam said the attackers were believed to be civilians from a rival community within Binduri.

“They were not driving or riding. The people nearby couldn’t defend themselves because they were unarmed,” he noted.

The suspects fled the scene before locals could respond.

Retaliatory burning of MP’s house

In what appears to be a reprisal act, a house belonging to the Member of Parliament for Binduri, Issifu Mahmoud, was set on fire at dawn in the Aniisim community.

“This morning, we woke up to find that the MP’s house had been burnt. I don’t believe the same people who carried out the shooting were responsible for this, but perhaps others who were angered by the attack,” Salam said.

No casualties were recorded in the arson attack.

Mounting fear and calls for calm

The incident has intensified fears in Binduri, a district that has seen intermittent violence linked to the long-standing Bawku conflict.

Residents say the killings have shocked the community, prompting renewed calls for greater security presence and swift justice.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement, but community leaders are urging calm while appealing to security agencies to track down those responsible for the violence.
