Two women captured in a viral video assaulting a 12-year-old minor at La in Accra have been remanded into police custody by the La District Court.
Princess Naa Adjeley Giftan Mesopeh and Precious Ajorkor Mesopeh, both students, pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit a crime, assault and cruelty to a child.
Meanwhile, the accused persons’ mother, Priscilla Novishie, said to be an accomplice, is currently at large.
Defence counsel for the two accused persons, who are siblings, prayed the court to grant them bail.
However, the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Gladys Aikins Asare, objected to the bail application on the grounds that investigations were ongoing.
Chief Inspector Asare told the court that the accused persons should be remanded to enable the police to complete investigations, adding that they posed a flight risk since their mother was on the run.
The prosecution further informed the court that the accused persons and the victim resided in the same vicinity.
The court upheld the prosecution’s prayer and adjourned the case to January 19, 2026.
Presenting the facts, the prosecution said the complainant, whose name was withheld, was unemployed, while the victim was a 12-year-old minor.
It said both the complainant and the victim lived in an area known as Roman School, La, Accra.
The court heard that the two accused persons lived with their mother, a fashion designer, in the same neighbourhood.
According to the prosecution, the victim occasionally visited the accused persons’ house to assist with household chores and errands.
On December 30, 2025, a misunderstanding occurred between the victim and the accused person’s seven-year-old brother.
The prosecution said the matter was reported to the family, after which the victim was brought to the house and assaulted.
The incident was recorded on a mobile phone and circulated on social media.
The case was subsequently reported to the Police at La, leading to the arrest of the accused persons.
