Here’s a list of the 10 most secure prisons in Africa, where escape is virtually impossible.

1. C-Max Prison – South Africa

C-Max, short for “Maximum Security,” is located in Pretoria, South Africa. This high-security unit is part of the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre. Known for housing violent and dangerous inmates, C-Max Prison is equipped with electronic surveillance, motion detectors, and steel-reinforced walls, making escape nearly impossible.

2. Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison – Nigeria

Located in Lagos, Nigeria, Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison is notorious for its tough conditions and heavy security. Originally built in 1955, it now features advanced security upgrades. With tall concrete walls, armed towers, and restricted movement, it’s one of the most secure prisons in West Africa.

3. Kamiti Maximum Security Prison – Kenya

Situated near Nairobi, Kamiti Prison is one of Kenya’s oldest and most fortified prisons. It houses death row inmates and high-profile convicts. The facility has a grim reputation, and its tight security protocols ensure that escape attempts are swiftly thwarted.

4. Chikurubi Maximum Prison – Zimbabwe

Chikurubi Prison is located on the outskirts of Harare and is Zimbabwe’s most feared detention facility. It houses the country’s most dangerous criminals, including armed robbers and murderers. The prison’s high walls, razor wire, and armed patrols ensure maximum containment and zero escape.

5. Mile 2 Central Prison – The Gambia

7. Makala Central Prison – Democratic Republic of Congo

9. Black Beach Prison – Equatorial Guinea

Also known as Playa Negra Prison, this facility is infamous for its harsh conditions and military-style operations. With armed guards on constant patrol and restricted movement within its heavily fortified walls, Black Beach Prison is impossible to escape without inside help.

10. Mandela Correctional Centre – South Africa
