The Police have arrested 15 suspects after a sporadic shooting in the Ho Zongo, injuring several people and heightening security concerns.

The incident occurred on Friday morning within the Zongo community, prompting a swift joint police and military response to restore calm.

Some residents sustained gunshot-related injuries during the disturbance and were rushed to the Ho Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

Dr Edward Agyekum, Head of the Accident and Emergency Unit, said 10 victims were received for treatment.

Dr Agyekum explained that the injuries were mainly pellet gunshot wounds affecting the legs and thighs of the victims.

He added that only one victim required closer medical observation.

“One had the pellets pass through the thigh and ended at the right lower side of the abdomen, so that one needs extra attention,” he stated.

Dr Agyekum gave an assurance that the remaining patients were stable.

“The rest are not critical cases and will be discharged today,” he noted.

Meanwhile, security sources said the shooting followed rising tensions within the Ho Zongo community, with speculations linking it to disagreements over leadership of the Muslim community.

Reports indicate that around 9 am, masked men, allegedly led by one Mutala appeared and demanded keys to the mosque, while worshippers had gathered for Friday prayers, triggering panic and the subsequent shooting.

The police have not officially confirmed the cause of the incident, and residents are awaiting an official statement from security authorities as investigations continue.
